What is IPTV? |

IPTV is Internet Protocol Television which is a new method of delivering and viewing television programmes using an IP network and high speed broad band access technology. It provides triple services (Cable TV, Internet and Telephone) on a single medium i.e. on existing telecommunication infrastructure.

IPTV channel distribution service is provided on a single mode of transmission for triple play i.e. Cable TV, Internet and Telephone on a fixed telephone network. Whereas an Internet TV is broadcast through website and accessible anywhere in the world through internet.

What are the advantages of IPTV? |

It is a digital service and therefore, the quality of picture is much superior as compared to the existing analogue Cable TV technology. It also provides interfacing of subscriber with a single service provider for provision of telephone, internet and television services resulting in easier technical maintenance, streamlined billing and improved quality of service.

How to apply for IPTV Licence? |

Interested company for IPTV (channel distribution services) licence, having local loop licence from PTA, may apply on prescribed application form along with required information available on PEMRA website.

A company registered with the Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan under the Companies Ordinance, 1984 and having a Local Loop Telecom Licence from PTA is only eligible to apply for IPTV Channel Distribution Service Licence. Yes, PEMRA licensees are bound to comply with the Code of Conduct, PEMRA Ordinance, Rules and Regulations.

It is difficult to give an exact figure as it depends on the quality of the IPTV Channel, the current market prices and the area covered.

Whom do I contact in case of complaint? |
| Ans. |
Firstly, there are Regional General Mangers in the provinces and Islamabad. Secondly, there are Councils of Complaints headed by eminent citizens in all provinces including Islamabad. These are the two forums where complaints should normally be lodged. However, in case of a serious complaint or a serious technical problem, D.G. (Enforcement) may be contacted.
